November 2007, Event ticketing on Facebook

Is Facebook on the way to change the dynamics on how event tickets for smaller events are distributed and marketed on the net?

The company TicketLeap has launched a ticketing application that allows Facebook members to sell tickets to the events that they have created using the Facebook Events application.

We're giving Facebook users an easy way to sell tickets to their events. Our application works hand-in-hand with Facebook Events, and we've made it as simple as possible, says TicketLeap Founder and CEO, Christopher Stanchak.

The new ticketing application is easy to use, what you need to do is:

1. Create an event using the Facebook Events application

2. Install the ticketing add-on from TicketLeap

3. Enter ticket sales details

4. Start promoting your event

One of the ain advantages is that a buyer can buy a ticket without being a member of the Facebook community. The ticketing application also allows for secure credit card payment. When the event is over, TicketLeap transfers the proceeds from the event to the organiser either per cheque or by using PayPal. TicketLeap make their money by charging a fee per ticket sold. This fee is determined by the ticket price. There is no fee charged for free events.

Some comments on the ticketing application:

“I think it’s another way for college kids, who usually don’t have much money to begin with, to use credit cards and get in trouble financially. It’d be nice if there were other methods of payment available, then people could at least choose which way the think is safest” said student Jori Sigler.

“There’s always a concern about hidden fees for the consumer and costs for the organization selling tickets. Usually it works out that unless you have a big turnout it’s not worth the fees” said Brad Theyerl, president of the Fond du Lac running club.
